Weekend trip to the cultural capital of Chemnitz

Once a year, the association plans a weekend trip for our orphaned families. The short trip always takes us to a different beautiful location somewhere within a 2-3 hour radius of Halle (Saale).

This year, we traveled with nine families to Chemnitz, this year's European Capital of Culture, from September 5 to 7. Our visit showcased the many facets of the former Karl Marx City—from the Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau district of Kaßberg, to the traces of industrial culture, to the Nischel itself, and on our own discovery tour through the city center. We started on Friday evening after dinner with a short guided tour around the castle church. On Saturday morning, we walked to the industrial museum. There, visitors young and old were particularly amazed. We invited everyone to the Michaelis coffee house for coffee.

During this time, we stayed at the Chemnitz “eins” youth hostel, which is perfectly located in the city center. We were very impressed by the old historic transformer station. Its industrial character and loft charm made our accommodation very special. A great group room provided a pleasant atmosphere for our cozy evenings with pleasant conversations and memories of our little and big angels.

This project is made possible by a grant from the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
