From 29.07. to 01.08.2022 5 siblings went on a summer vacation to the children's recreation center (KiEZ) "Am Filzteich" in Schneeberg. After a two-hour drive, we arrived in Schneeberg in time for lunch, where we were able to fortify ourselves. Afterwards we started with a round of getting to know each other and explored the area in the form of a KiEZ rally. After dinner, a short thematic unit was on the agenda. Each child was to create a memory jar and fill it with memories in the form of small messages. The special thing about it was that not everybody should fill his own glass, but always the glasses of the other group member. We ended the first evening at sunset on the beach. On Saturday we started after breakfast for an excursion. On foot we went to the not far away "Fundora". There we spent the whole day on trampolines, on climbing walls, in play castles and at laser tag. This stay at the "Fundora" was super fun for all the kids and one or the other even overcame his fears on this day and rose above himself. After two days of rain, the sun finally shone for us on Sunday. In the morning we started with the children with a thematic unit called "Everything is upside down". This was about how the everyday life of the siblings has changed since and during the illness. What are their tasks now? How are they doing in their new role? What tips do they have for each other? This unit was very emotional for some and yet very helpful for all. In the afternoon we had to take advantage of the good weather and went to the beach to build a raft. The children were left to their own devices and had to work together to come up with a plan of what such a raft could look like and how it had to be constructed so that it would actually float. Of course, there was always a little help from time to time, and in the end the children had built a great raft thanks to their excellent cooperation, and they were even able to use it on the lake. Afterwards, we took advantage of the weather on the beach and the kids had a great time in the cool water. We ended the day with a fun round of Monopoly. Monday morning it was time to say goodbye. After breakfast we drove back towards Halle. On the way we made a small stop in Altenburg and went to the Labyrinth House. Here we had to make our way through the dark and sometimes scary labyrinth and find all 5 hidden stamps. Even though some of us were scared, we found all the stamps. On the playground in front of the maze we did our feedback round and designed our traditional member cards. At the end of a very special trip, we all had chips and burgers together and looked back on the days.
Once again, it was a particularly intensive and enjoyable time with our siblings and it is always clear to see how important such time-outs are for the children. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the supporters who make such trips possible in the first place.
