Sibling Meeting - My Body of Knowledge

My treasure of knowledge

With a treasure chest over their shoulder, a small group went through the University Hospital Halle on 01.07.2022 to find the Children's Planet Treasure.

At the monthly meetings for the siblings of sick children, the focus is always on special topics in addition to fun and games. This time it was all about knowledge - especially knowledge about the illness of the brother or sister as well as everyday life in the clinic.

After a fun introduction, the younger and older group members were allowed to ask the acting head of Pediatrics I, Dr. Höll, all the questions they always wanted to have answered. What happens to all the blood after it has been examined? How important are the medications? How is a catheter inserted? Dr. Höll took every little question very seriously and answered them clearly and with a lot of patience.

The pediatric oncologist was also allowed to hand out the first stamp for the subsequent treasure hunt. These were very important in order to be able to enter the correct code at the combination lock at the end.

With the first part of the treasure map, the kids then made their way through the hospital building along the pediatric surgery to the pediatric oncology ward. For most of the treasure hunters, it was the first time they had entered the place where their sibling had been treated for a long time or was still being treated. From here, they went on to the various offerings of the Long Night of Science. There were exciting things to discover about blood, another stamp was collected and we also met the senior physician of pediatric oncology, Dr. Bernig.

Afterwards, it was fun and acrobatic at the stand of the circus. Balancing on a tightrope, standing on a ball or learning to juggle - there was something for everyone and a stamp was also awarded. With the stamp for dinner, everything was complete and the treasure could be successfully found and opened.

At the end, everyone noted down on the member card in their treasure chest what they had newly learned during the meeting. So everyone could take their personal treasure of knowledge home with them as a souvenir.

This project is made possible by a grant from the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
